We turn 5 this year!

Executive Director, Luck Knight, discusses the founding of SSP

The Story So Far:

Following a successful bid to operate the venue and two years of preparation, Streatham Space Project was opened in June 2018 by our team of Streatham-based artists. During the bid process, we interviewed people on the street to see what a theatre could be for the Streatham community.

It’ll be great for people who like theatre – but I don’t want to sit in the dark and watch other people have all the fun
- "Mr Blairderry", a man interviewed on Blairderry Road

We took this as our challenge – to make a venue where audiences felt involved, where they could get into the action and share the experience, up close and personal, with amazing artists in an intimate setting.

Welcomed 1000s of children and their families to our free-to-access family days and workshops

And this is just the beginning for us. With your support, we can do even more.

Over the next 5 years, we will become:

A springboard and laboratory for artists to take risks, push their artistic practices and even fail – platforming work that is thought-provoking, risky, innovative and inclusive

A community space for locals to use in whichever way suits them – birthdays, weddings, parties, baby showers, fashion shows, marketplace, you name it!

A welcoming space where the young people of Streatham can engage in their first artistic experiences and we will provide opportunities to develop them further as artists throughout their childhood

We’re aiming to raise £5000 by the end of 2024 to continue platforming brilliant artists and hosting community events.
As it’s our 5th birthday, we done what every 5 year old does and made a list of presents we’d like… Number Five-themed, of course!
