Creative Director Natasha Brown's 1-Year Anniversary at SSP

Congratulations to our Creative Director, Natasha Brown, on her 1-year anniversary with Streatham Space Project!

A Message From Natasha brown

It’s been a year since I’ve joined SSP as Creative Director, and what a year it has been! From programming exciting new festivals to conversing with local Streathamites at our free community events, I have thoroughly enjoyed the work of leading a venue that platforms emerging, independent artists, and a community space that serves its local residents.

The past year has not been without its challenges – leading the organisation through the cost-of-living crisis and the unpredictable funding climate has been a steep learning curve. But I have learnt so much from these experiences and cannot wait to bring this new knowledge into my second year at SSP.

In the coming year, I hope to continue championing artists in taking risks and pushing creative boundaries. I hope to continue our efforts in engaging our local community with events that bring people together and affordable tickets to high quality shows. Most of all, I hope to bring our organisation’s values of being kind, playful, transparent, agile and emboldening to everything that SSP does.

Thank you very much for coming with me on this journey this past year, and thanks especially to my wonderful team who strive everyday to bring collective joy to the doorstep of our local community.

Best wishes,
Tash

Artist Meet ‘n’ Greet Event

Over the past year, SSP has supported more than 400 artists & creatives via mentoring, programming, and artist development.

  • Developed new creative opportunities & residencies such as the Risk Is This programme

  • Engaged with artists and creatives at our Artist Meet ‘N’ Greet events

  • Offered 623 hours of free rehearsal space to artists

We have also programmed exciting new festivals that reflect the concerns and joys of our time.

  • Good Trouble Festival in October 2023 was inspired by Civil Rights activist John Lewis’s call to action – “get in good trouble, necessary trouble”. The week-long festival celebrated Black creatives using their art to make some noise.

  • ASSEMBLE Festival, opening at the end of this month, explores the innate need for humans to gather when facing the complexities of our world. A 2-week long festival featuring 24 artists responding to the issues of our time.

Neighbourhood Day in March 2024

In the past year, we have welcomed over 600 people to a range of pay-what-you-can community events that reflect the interests of our diverse Streatham neighbourhood.

  • Neighbourhood Days, a new quarterly community event for Streathamites to get to know their neighbours

  • Family Days featuring family-friendly creative activities and shows

  • A community event to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Windrush

Thank you for being on this journey with us this past year. Stay tuned for more exciting programme and events over the next year!
