It was said by a friend. A joke. I said nothing. Worse. I laughed. Why did I laugh? I will spend the next 45 minutes trying to answer that question.
Meet Kiren Virdee - British, Punjabi and Sikh (in that order??). She’s always felt disconnected from her heritage - except for food. A source of connection but also embarrassment. Through recordings, film, interviews, lip sync, spoken word and movement, Does Anyone Else Smell Curry? is a raw reclamation of the pain, duality and fragmentation that is the British South Asian experience.
How do we see ourselves? How do others see us? Are we…not more than curry?
